Evolve 102 Review

The crowd appears to be smaller for this than it was for Matt Riddle's Bloodsport. Not really sure why.

Austin Theory vs DJZ

Pretty good way to kick off the show. DJZ manages to tread the line between wildly entertaining and obnoxiously dickish with ease. The only real issue was how the finish came out of nowhere. ***

Theory wants Keith Lee to put up his WWN Live Title.

Will Ospreay vs AR Fox

Ospreay is heavily taped following the madness of the Scurll match. Despite being banged up Ospreay didn't miss a beat, and Fox was there with him the entire way. This was really good but it would have been even better with a little less nonsense from Fox's entourage. ****

Evolve Tag Titles - Chris Dickinson & Jaka vs Anthony Henry & James Drake vs Tracy Williams & Dom Garrini vs The End

The rules are that it is 2 in at a time, no tags needed, and Dickinson & Jaka must be pinned to lose the belts. The confusion doesn't help with getting the crowd involved. The match is hectic and entertaining enough, but the winners not getting the titles just confused the crowd. Unnecessarily confusing. ***

Keith Lee vs Darby Allin

This match is essentially Keith Lee committing a 10-minute murder. Allin wouldn't give up but he never had enough to win. It was really good all things considered. I enjoy watching Keith Lee go full on destruction. ***1/2

After the match, Keith Lee accepted the challenge of Austin Theory.

Jarek 1.20 then attacked Allin.

Ringkampf vs Daisuke Sekimoto & Munenori Sawa

Yeah, this is what I'm here for. Sawa came out of retirement for this weekend. This was always gonna be stiff as old boards and all four men looked like they were having a blast the entire time. If you like a good old-fashioned hoss match, you can do far worse than this. With a hotter crowd, this would have been even better. ****1/4

Stokely Hathaway arrives and calls WALTER 'Vladimir Kozlov'. That is the height of disrespect. Darby Allin then appears and gets murderised by WALTER.

Evolve Title - Zack Sabre Jr vs Matt Riddle

This is the rubber match between these two, as it currently stands at 1-1. They put on a really good match and showed that they knew each other's move sets with the quality of the reversals they showed. Despite the quality, it wasn't quite up there with the level that I know they are capable of. Part of me wishes they would have saved the title change for a show with a hotter crowd. ****

After the match, Zack hands the title to Riddle and offers a handshake. Riddle wants a fist bump. Zack looks unimpressed but agrees.

Overall Grade - B-

This was a show that featured some really good matches but left a lingering annoyance that the crowd wasn't better. Everything that you would expect to deliver did in some way though.
