WWE Smackdown Recap (24th October 2017)

Shane McMahon starts the show. He is happy with himself after yesterday's attacks on Raw. He says that he knew he would have to be the one that strikes first and that's why he went to Raw. It's also why he allowed Raw to use AJ Styles for an extra night. Angle should have known better, he insulted the Smackdown roster and so he unleashed 'Under Siege'. Sami Zayn comes out and says that he hopes that there will be no hard feelings about HIAC. Shane says that there are hard feelings but he will fix those at another time. Sami says that if Shane was out as a competitor he would destroy him in a second. He says that he and Kevin Owens have mulled it over and decided to enter themselves for Team Smackdown at Survivor Series. Shane says that he doesn't want or need them on the team but he will give them a shot at qualifying. Sami will face Randy Orton tonight and if he wins he is on the team. This was a solid segment to start the show. It played off the previous night's actions and set the main event for the night.

New Day vs Gable & Benjamin - Solid tag match. Gable & Benjamin needed to win here because they are next in line for a tag title match, and they did. The Usos were on commentary and they did a good job.

The 5 women who will be part of the Smackdown team at Survivor Series meet to talk about getting revenge for losing last year. Daniel Bryan arrives and says that they need to be a cohesive unit and books a match between them to determine who will be the captain of the team.

It's time for a new Fashion Files, which this week will be Fashion Dogs. The Ascension have kidnapped Ellsworth because he has a briefcase. They threaten to cut his chin off until they get answers. Carmella comes to save him and Fandango takes her briefcase. It only contained Ellsworth's shit stained underwear. The Ascension once again tell Breezango that 2B is the Bludgeon Brothers. Next week we will have Strangerer Things.

Daniel Bryan wants to know why Shane didn't consult him about last night's attack on Raw.

Baron Corbin vs Sin Cara - Sin Cara picks up another cheap victory, this time by DQ. It was fine, I suppose. Corbin hits the End Of Days on the floor.

The Singh Brothers come out and claim to be the advocates for Jinder Mahal. Jinder is out and he says that Paul Heyman is a liar. Jinder says that he has earned everything he has and is now the most important wrestler in the company. He is Lesnar's worst nightmare and will beat him at Survivor Series. I doubt that Jinder, and I hope not too.

AJ Styles vs Sunil Singh - Styles won in 30 seconds, as he should. Next.

Kevin Owens meets with Sami Zayn and says that he will have a qualifier for Team Smackdown next week against Shinsuke Nakamura.

Charlotte Flair vs Becky Lynch vs Tamina vs Carmella vs Naomi (Winner is captain at Survivor Series) - I don't know the actual numbers but I believe that this is the 300th fatal 5-way match this year. Honestly, it's lazy booking. The match itself was okay but nothing more than that. Becky Lynch picked up the win with the Disarmher.

Dolph Ziggler tells Renee that nobody cares about what he has to say. Spot on Dolph. He makes some derogatory comments about Bobby Roode and then Roode turns up. Roode says that he would rather fight than talk and suggests a 2 out of 3 falls match for next week. Ziggler agrees. The winner will get a spot in Team Smackdown.

Sami Zayn vs Randy Orton (Winner gets a place on Team Smackdown) - this was a good main event and Sami seems to be having the time of his life in this heel run. Orton picked up the win here though when he outheels the heels. With Zayn losing this match I would expect Owens to lose to Nakamura next week, setting up something with Shane.

Bryan and Shane meet and Bryan tells him that even though Raw didn't retaliate tonight, they will at some point.

Overall Thoughts

There wasn't a great deal to this show. They addressed what happened on Raw and set up some things going forward but there wasn't anything that you really need to go out of your way to see. It's not a bad show, it's just a show. I think it was a wise idea not to have Raw invade on this show, saving it for next week is the better play.
