WWE Raw Recap (7th August 2017)

Due to some weirdly structured hours at work I have fallen behind a little bit on my G1 reviews. So I will try to get those done in addition to this. Anyway, on to Raw.

We start the show with the Miz calling out Jason Jordan. Instead of Jordan we get Kurt Angle, who says that Jordan will not be appearing on Miz TV because he has a match with Curtis Axel later. Instead there is a new guest, Brock Lesnar. Miz tells Heyman to shut up and that Lesnar will lose the title and it will be his fault. Heyman then takes to the mic and tells Miz that they are going to do some role playing with Miz as Roman Reigns, Bo Dallas as Samoa Joe and Curtis Axel as Braun Strowman. Heyman then leaves Lesnar to destroy all and sundry. It was a good enough start to the show.

Seth Rollins vs Sheamus - This was a decent enough match but they did the predictable thing and gave Sheamus the victory because Rollins won last week. It was pretty much by the numbers.

Following the match Rollins gets his ass handed to him by the tag champs, Ambrose elects not to help.

Rollins runs into Ambrose backstage and wants to know what he has to do to regain Ambrose's trust. Ambrose doesn't give a shit.

Curtis Axel isn't cleared by the doctors so it'll be Jordan vs local jobber.

Jason Jordan vs Jean-Pierre Goulet - In a fantastic turn of events Goulet is substantially more over than Jordan. The crowd does not like nepotism. Jordan wins in a squash. This was bad news for Jordan.

Bayley is out to tell everyone that her shoulder injury will keep her out of Summerslam. She says the crowd helped her feel less shit about the injury but the crowd boo her for it. Oh Canada. Bayley did not come off as confident at all here and Canada doesn't like her.

Sasha Banks vs Emma vs Alicia Fox - This is the first of two triple threat matches to determine a new number one contender to Alexa Bliss. The two winners will face off next week. This wasn't a very good match at all. Sasha won with the Banks Statement.

Enzo and Big Show do some talking. I shut off. Anderson & Gallows come out and we have a tag match.

Enzo & Big Show vs Anderson & Gallows - Terrible match that Anderson & Gallows won after a distraction by Cass.

Following the match Cass beat up Enzo but was stopped by Show. I don't care.

Finn Balor is out to talk about Bray Wyatt. He says that Wyatt is more concerned about hurting people than winning. Wyatt appears but Balor is ready for him and gets the upper hand so Wyatt disappears then reappears on the titantron, laughing. This was pretty much nonsense. 2017 Bray Wyatt is pretty terrible.

Dean Ambrose vs Cesaro - This was a good match but it felt really long for a TV match. They could have chopped a few minutes from it and it would have been a bit punchier. Ambrose won with a roll up.

Following the match the tag champs attack Ambrose and Rollins makes the save. Ambrose finally offers the fist for the Shield salute but this time Rollins refuses. A new wrinkle to the story.

Akira Tozawa vs Ariya Daivari - Here we go again. This was a fine match but I feel like I have seen it many times. Tozawa wins with the senton in under 5 minutes.

Nia Jax vs Mickie James vs Dana Brooke - This was a mess. Thankfully it only lasted a few minutes. Nia Jax obviously won and will face Sasha next week. We haven't seen that before.

There is a Goldust video package.

Kurt Angle books Cass vs Show with Enzo in the motherfucking shark cage. Who gives a shit?

Roman Reigns vs Braun Strowman (Last Man Standing) - You know what, this was fucking great. I like watching these two beat the shit out of each other. It might not be the best thing to book variations of the Summerslam main event in the lead up to the show but at least they are good matches. There is an awesome spot where they end up on the outside and Reigns charges Strowman but Braun throws a chair at his face. Not a fold up chair, a big fucking office chair. It's one of my favourite spots so far this year. In the end they make their way back to ringside where Reigns hits a spear on Strowman but Samoa Joe attacks Reigns from the crowd, applying the Coquina Clutch and causing him to pass out. Both men are down but only Braun beats the count, picking up the win.

Overall thoughts

You can feel free to skip pretty much everything up until the main event, which is top entertainment. A large portion of it just felt like killing time to fill the three hours.
