WWE Smackdown Recap (25th July 2017)

We start the show with Kevin Owens. He says everything is right with the world now that he is the US champion again. He says that he is reinstating the US Title Open Challenge, starting next week. AJ Styles comes out and demands his title rematch but then...........Jericho's music hits. Jericho wants his rematch too. Styles says that he is first, but Jericho disagrees and puts Styles on the list. Shane arrives and books a triple threat main event for the title. Owens is not a happy bunny.

Shinsuke Nakamura vs Baron Corbin - A better match than the one at Battleground, but that isn't saying a great deal. They don't really have any chemistry. At least this one had Nakamura winning clean. Big Breakfast Corbin will follow the same trajectory as other MITB winners it seems.

Naomi is interviewed backstage. She congratulaytes Natalya on her win but says she feels disrespected that Nattie didn't shake her hand. She says that Natalya has disrespected the title, completely overlooking the fact that she has put fucking lights on it. God, I hate that thing. Carmella turns up to let Naomi know she is still here.

Charlotte Flair & Becky Lynch vs Tamina & Lana - This was bad, but that should be expected with one of these teams. Tamina & Lana are an all-time bad team.

Jinder Mahal is out to find out his opponent for Summerslam. He says that Orton underestimated him and so did the fans. Mahal speaks in Punjabi but is interrupted by 'American Hero' John Cena, because apparently Cena doesn't like the sound of the Punjabi language. He says that he will beat Mahal and become a 17 time world champion. Daniel Bryan then turns up and tells Cena to stop booking his own matches. He says that Cena will have to earn his opportunity and books a match between Cena and Nakamura for next week with the winner facing Mahal at Summerslam. While I am intrigued by this match I think giving it away on free TV is somewhat of a waste.

Owens complains to Shane about his title match. Shane doesn't care.

Tye Dillinger & Sami Zayn vs Aiden English & Mike Kanellis - This was average. Zayn pinned Kanellis following a Helluva Kick. It appears the Power of Love ain't worth shit.

New Day comes out to celebrate but the Usos are not happy about losing their titles and destroy them. Simple but effective.

Renee interviews Nakamura. He says he will beat Cena and see Jinder at Summerslam.

Kevin Owens vs AJ Styles vs Chris Jericho (US Title) - This was a much more entertaining match that the US Title match at Battleground. The three men worked really well with each other and the addition of Jericho freshened the match up. Styles won by pinning Jericho. Following the match Owens demanded his rematch with Styles next week.

Overall Thoughts

This was a decent show, much more entertaining than Battleground. The fact that Styles regained the title here adds credence to the rumours that the finish of the match at Battleground was a botch. It was weird to see no development of the Fashion X-Files story though.
