WWE Smackdown Recap (11th July 2017)

AJ Styles is out, with his newly won US title, to say that Battleground came early as he won the title at MSG. He announces that he would have an open challenge for his title. John Cena comes out to accept but before the match can get underway they get interrupted by Kevin Owens. He talks some shit about the faces and he and Rusev attack. This was a good way to open the show, it advanced two of the main storylines ahead of the PPV.

Jinder Mahal vs Tye Dillinger - While it is sensible that Jinder got a relatively quick win, it is a shame that they have apparently already given up on making something out of Dillinger's main roster run. The match was average.

Following the match Jinder cut a promo that was pretty much the same as any of his others.

Xavier Woods vs Jey Uso - This was fine considering it only lasted 2 minutes. Woods won with a cool looking elbow.

Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan are talking on the phone. Naomi wants to know who her next challenger is and Shane books a 5 way match for Battleground because he is fucking lazy at his job. The sheer amount of 5 and 6 way matches is getting annoying.

Baron Corbin is interviewed about Shinsuke Nakamura. He says that he will hurt him tonight.

The Corbin vs Nakamura match never starts as Nakamura attacks during the entrance. They brawl in to the crowd as road agents try to separate them. Corbin decides the fight isn't worth it and high tails out of there.

Cena and Styles have a chin wag backstage. Styles says he wanted to fight Cena cuz he took his title away earlier this year. They have got each other's backs tonight.

Becky Lynch & Charlotte Flair vs Tamina & Natalya - This wasn't particularly great. WWE keeps trying new things with Tamina but she just isn't very good. She picks up the win here though with a pin on Charlotte.

Sami Zayn meets with Mike & Maria Kanellis. They want an apology but Sami wants one too. Maria can't be arsed with Sami's nonsense and smashes a vase over his head.

We get a Fashion Files segment but this time it's Fashion Walkers, Texas Rangers starring Chuck Norris, but not really starring Chuck Norris. Fandango rides up to Zack Ryder on his horse on a stick to ask him some questions about the night they were attacked. Mojo turns up to ruin the fun but it doesn't last long. But Fandango's horse has gone missing. It has to be ghost aliens. They tease a the Fashion X Files. The future is not H.

John Cena & AJ Styles vs Kevin Owens & Rusev - This match did a decent job of building up to the PPV but it felt somewhat lackluster considering those involved. It was by no means bad but it did feel somewhat half speed. The faces win after Cena hits an AA on Owens.

Overall Thoughts

The opening of the show was strong and the Fashion Police segment was funny as usual but the rst of the show could be easily skipped.
